What’s in Bloom: Scavenger Hunt for June 2026

Have you seen me in the Park?

Hi, I’m Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa)! With my bright clusters of orange flowers, I put on quite a show throughout the summer. You’ll often find me growing in sunny prairies, meadows, and open landscapes where I can thrive in well-drained soils. My vibrant blooms don't just catch the eye—they're a favorite nectar source for many pollinators.

As my common name suggests, butterflies absolutely adore me, especially Monarch butterflies! While I’m not a larval host plant like some of my milkweed relatives, my flowers provide an important source of nectar that helps fuel Monarchs and other pollinators during their journeys.

Can you spot me in Tower Grove Park?

Clues to Find Me:

  1. I produce bright orange flower clusters that bloom throughout the summer.

  2. Butterflies, especially Monarchs, love visiting my flowers for nectar.

  3. I thrive in sunny locations and well-drained soils.

  4. Despite being called Butterfly Weed, I am a native wildflower prized by gardeners and pollinators alike.

Challenge: Snap a photo, share it on Instagram, and tag us @TowerGrovePark using #TGPinBloomHunt!

Have fun getting creative with your photos—just remember, don’t pick the flowers!
