Basic Maintenance Tips for Native Perennials

Its that time of year again, the weather will be breaking soon and your Native Perennials will need some tending to soon.  Some tips for maintaining these plants in our BMP’s ( Rain Gardens).

Cut back perennials to the basal foliage that have broken of drooping stems.
Leave sturdy stems cut back to 16” for all the native bees in your area to make a nesting home in the stems.

Remove debris around the base of plants to allow for the areas to be mulched.
Mulching will help prevent weeds. Divide and transplant these plants if applicable in early spring to get established by our hot summers.
