Information regarding the Horseshoe pits

Tower Grove Park has, from its inception, been known as a natural refuge for birds of many different species especially during the spring and fall migrating seasons. The Park's life list is now well over 200, and serious birders from all over the metro area, and beyond, visit the Park regularly during those seasons.

The Piper Palm House's Café Madeleine offers visitors a relaxing environment to plan or reflect on their park experience every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. During that time, visitors may enjoy a brunch buffet inside amid the palms and statues, or in warm weather outdoors on the Stupp Plaza.

The adjacent lily ponds offer a tranquil backdrop against which to relax or visit with friends or family. The Piper Palm House is also available for a variety of events, including wedding receptions, graduation parties, and other celebrations.

In order to ensure a successful event for all parties involved, all arrangements must go through the Park’s recreation coordinator. Please contact Liz Hickox, Director of Community Programs, at 314-771-4465 for further information specific to your event.

Thanks to the Trio Foundation and the Moog Family Foundation, for providing the initial funds to renovate the playground area at the Pool Pavilion.

Anyone who has driven past Tower Grove Park is aware of the popularity of its paths among walkers, joggers, and bicyclists, and of its athletic fields among soccer and football players. But, did you know that Tower Grove Park is also home to the only public grass tennis courts in the metropolitan area?

Tennis Director, Bill Kress

The twelve Tennis and Pickleball courts at Tower Grove Park are adjacent to the Henry Shaw Memorial Tennis Building, erected in 1952. The Shaw Tennis Building is home to a well-supplied pro shop and locker room facilities. We also have three historic grass courts which are located just south of the hard courts, on the other side of the childrens' play area.

The season runs from April 1st - October 31st. The courts are open everyday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Clubhouse hours are seasonal; roughly 9:00 a.m. to noon and 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., weather dependent.

There are several ways to enjoy tennis in the park, including clinics, tournaments, leagues and open play. Please call Bill at 314-771-7776 or the Recreation Coordinator at 314-771-4454 for more information.
